Montana Trail Ride

Eight horse and one donkey tied to hitching post waiting to start their Montana trail ride

The warmth of the sun on your face. The feel of worn leather reins in your hands. The rhythmic creaking of saddle leather as your horse climbs the trail. A chipmunk darts across the trail, but your horse doesn’t mind, he’s seen them before. The smell of sage, pine, and horses fill the air. While on our trail rides, you will witness spectacular Spanish Peak views you can only imagine, until you see them from the back of a horse. A Montana trail ride is a horseback experience like no other.

Broken Hart Ranch is excited about your interest in taking a trail ride with us. We offer a couple different options depending on your timeline – whether its a 2-hour ride or one of our longer wilderness adventures – and we are always here to ensure that you have a safe and enjoyable experience.

Important & FAQs

Bring along a jacket and cap, sunscreen, insect repellent, bottled water, sack lunch or snack, and a camera because you won’t want to miss taking any of these memories home! However, it is very important to keep weight to the minimum that we request that you don’t bring more than needed.

On full-day rides, please pack a light lunch.

We require long pants and closed-toe, closed-heel shoes such as sneakers and strongly discourage heavy threaded hiking boots and shorts as you will most likely get saddle sores on your skin or scratches from the forest. Absolutely no high heels, clogs, or flip-flops. Bring a light jacket or additional layer in case the weather changes.

Yes, on the 2-hour long rides however, there will not be cell reception on the longer rides. Of course, you can still use your phone as a camera, but you will be unable to place calls.

The weather in Montana can change quickly from a hot summer day to cool afternoon showers so please pay attention to weather forecasts and dress appropriately. We ride rain or shine and it is up to the Broken Hart Ranch to cancel due to any weather concerns. We recommend you might want to bring a light jacket just in case.

Riders must be at least 8 years of age and be mature enough and physically able to control the horse because we do not allow double riding for safety reasons.

We are unable to accommodate anyone over 250 lbs (BMI over 35) due to the health and well-being of our horses and the safety of the guest. Please call us to discuss options, if needed.
